AN IMPACT EVALUATION OF
AGRICULTURAL PROJECTS
As part of its Community-based Development Programme (CBDP), the Episcopal Church in the Philippines (ECP) implemented different development projects to assist economically disadvantaged farming communities in selected parts of the country. These development projects mostly came in the form of post-harvest facilities like solar driers/drying pavements, rice mills, warehouse/storage buildings, corn shellers and the like. Such facilities were meant to assist communities attain higher returns from agriculture via the reduction of crop spoilage and the production of better quality crops which could fetch better prices in the market. The ECP also assisted local communities through livelihood projects like cattle and swine dispersal as well as helped in the installation/repair of communal water systems for domestic and/or agricultural use. Records show that most ECP projects were completed between 2000 and 2008 with only a few projects implemented in the early 1990s. It is common for community beneficiaries to receive assistance for multiple projects which are highly complementary to each other like solar driers, rice mills and warehouses.
